Angles
ASAP Steel & Pipe branches stock a broad range of angle iron, also known as L-shaped cross-sections. These are steel bars in the shape of an angle with equal or unequal sides.
Angles can be applied as braces to reinforce structures from the outside by increasing overall stress tolerance, but may also be used in sets of two or four to form the main members of a building framework or “skeleton”.
Beams
ASAP Steel & Pipe branches stock a broad range of beams which are designed to support horizontal loading across their axis and are therefore much deeper than they are wide in order to prevent bending.
The most common beam in construction is the I-beam, also known as a universal beam – a steel member with an I or H-shaped cross-section. I-beams have a strong centre for vertical support, along with flanges on either side to provide strength in the horizontal plane. They may be used on their own or cast in concrete.
Channels

Channels are typically used as braces along building frames for added reinforcement. It can also be used in carports as support beams and in truck and trailer body building for reinforcement. Roof trusses also applies channels in their structures.

Columns are designed to support vertical loading down their length and are almost square in cross-section (with the width similar to the depth) in order to prevent twisting.
